# axlUSDC (https://docs.axelar.dev/gmp/resources/axlusdc)



axlUSDC is Axelar's wrapped [USDC](https://www.circle.com/en/usdc). Each axlUSDC is backed by one USDC locked in the [Axelar gateway on Ethereum](https://etherscan.io/address/0x4F4495243837681061C4743b74B3eEdf548D56A5#tokentxns).

* **Minting.** Depositing USDC at the Ethereum gateway mints the same amount of axlUSDC on the destination chain, minus fees. Sending it back burns it and releases the USDC.
* **Moving between chains.** Once minted, axlUSDC moves from chain to chain directly, without going back through Ethereum.
* **Security.** On EVM chains, axlUSDC is a [gateway token](https://docs.axelar.dev/llms.mdx/gmp/integrations/evm/send-tokens-with-messages/content.md) on [consensus chains](https://docs.axelar.dev/llms.mdx/infrastructure/content.md#verifying-connected-chains): the gateways that lock, mint and release it only accept approvals signed by Axelar's validators, weighted by the square root of their stake ([quadratic voting](https://docs.axelar.dev/llms.mdx/infrastructure/resources/security/content.md#quadratic-voting)). axlUSDC is widely used in the Cosmos ecosystem, including as the main USDC on [Osmosis](https://osmosis.zone/). Its token address on each chain is under [Assets](https://docs.axelar.dev/llms.mdx/infrastructure/network/chains-and-contracts/content.md#assets).
